NEW YORK-The Orioles claimed infielder Emmanuel Rivera off waivers from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. Rivera, who plays first and third base, was hitting .214 with a home run and 15 RBIs in 96 games for the Marlins.
The 28-year-old right-handed hitter also has played for Kansas City and Arizona in his four-season major league career.
To make room for Rivera on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated utilityman Terrin Vavra for assignment.
