Orioles place Mountcastle on injured list, recall Soto

The Orioles placed first baseman Ryan Mountcastle on the 10-day injured list retroactive to August 23rd because of a sprained left wrist.

Mountcastle injured the wrist diving into second base in Thursday’s game against Houston.

He’s hitting .265 with 13 home runs and 65 RBIs with a .730 OPS.

The Orioles recalled infielder Livan Soto from Triple-A Norfolk. Soto has been active for seven games since his acquisition from Cincinnati on July 30th but has yet to play. This will be his third stint with the Orioles this month.

Notes:  The Orioles released right-hander Nick Avila. … Catcher/first baseman Samuel Basallo, who was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk, was named the Eastern League Player of the Week.
