The surgery, performed by Dr. Keith Meister at Trinity Park Surgery Center in Arlington, Texa,s was described as successful by the Orioles.

Mateo’s surgery was ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction with internal brace and flexor repair.

“Everything went very well. Hopefully, he’s back by the regular season next year,” manager Brandon Hyde said.

Mateo, who was already on the 60-day injured list, hit .220 with five home runs and 18 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts.

“When he’s going well, he’s tough to get out,” Hyde said. “If you don’t get him out, he’s going to score because the threat he is on the bases. Losing Jorgie is a big loss for us.”
