The Orioles are calling up third baseman Coby Mayo for Sunday’s game in Colorado. Mayo, who 1-for-17 in his first stint for the Orioles earlier this month, will be one of the two players added on Sunday.
Zach Eflin, who’s expected to come off the 15-day injured list to start Sunday’s game against the Rockies, will likely be the other.
Major league teams are required to add two players to the roster on September 1st.
Mayo, who was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk for the first time on August 2nd, was hitless in his first 16 at-bats before singling on August 15th. He was optioned to Norfolk the next day.
The 22-year-old, who was the Orioles’ fourth-round draft pick in 2020, hit .293 with 22 home runs and 67 RBIs and a .943 OPS with Norfolk. He’s now the Orioles’ top-rated minor league prospect.
News of Mayo’s promotion was first reported by The Baltimore Sun and confirmed by an industry source.
