Maton, who appeared in two innings of the Orioles’ 17-5 win over the Yankees on June 20th, has played second, shortstop, third base and the corner outfield spots in his four-season major league career. He’s a lifetime .208 hitter with Philadelphia and Detroit.

The 27-year-old hit .261 with an .845 OPS with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs in 86 games with Norfolk. He also was an emergency pitcher in four games for the Tides.

To make room for Maton on the 26- and 40-man rosters, catcher David Bañuelos was designated for assignment. Bañuelos was the taxi squad catcher on the Orioles’ road trip and was activated for Sunday’s game. He’s hitless in one at-bat this season.
