Left-handed pitcher Cole Irvin, who was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Sunday, was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins on Monday.
Irvin, who was acquired from the Oakland Athletics in January 2023, was 7-9 with a 4.68 ERA in two seasons with the Orioles. He appeared in 49 games, 28 starts. This season, he was 6-5 with a 4.86 ERA.
Because he was claimed in September, the 30-year-old Irvin won’t be eligible to play in the postseason for Minnesota, but he could face the Orioles when they visit Minneapolis for the final three games of the regular season on September 27th-29th.
Irvin was not on last season’s roster for the Division Series in which the Orioles were swept by the Texas Rangers.
