Mayo is expected to be replaced on the roster by Ramón Urías, who played in his second rehab game for the Tides on Friday night. Urías hit a two-run home run and drove in all three runs for Norfolk in its 5-3 loss to Nashville. He was on the 10-day injured list because of a sprained right ankle.

Mayo, who was named the Orioles’ Minor League Player of the Year on Friday, was hitting 4-for-41 (.098) in 17 games with the Orioles. The 22-year-old, who started at first base on Friday night, was 1-for-17 in his first stint last month, and 3-for-24 since he was recalled from Norfolk on September  1st.

The Baltimore Banner was first with the news of Mayo’s demotion.
