At least four coaches from manager Brandon Hyde’s 2024 coaching staff will not return in 2025. Matt Borgschulte, the Orioles’ co-hitting coach for the past three seasons, will rejoin the Minnesota Twins organization as a hitting coach, according to a report from The Baltimore Sun, which was confirmed by an industry source.
Last week, Ryan Fuller, the other Orioles’ co-hitting coach, bench coach Fredi González and major league coach José Hernández were informed they would not be coming back in 2025.
Fuller, who was the hitting coach for the Double-A Bowie Baysox as well as the full-season hitting coordinator for the minor leagues in 2021, joined with Borgschulte, who was hitting coach for the Triple-A St. Paul Saints in the Twins’ organization as co-hitting coaches.
In 2023, Fuller and Borgschulte were joined by Cody Asche, the team’s offensive strategist, who functioned as a third batting coach.
Changes to the team’s hitting coaches were not a surprise after their offensive slump in the second half and scoring just one run in the two-game Wild Card Series loss to Kansas City.
Besides Asche, the Orioles’ other coaches in 2024 were Grant Anders (major league development coach), Tim Cossins (major league field coordinator/catching instructor, Drew French (pitching coach), Ryan Klimek (pitching strategy coach), Tony Mansolino (third base coach), Mitch Plassmeyer (assistant pitching coach) and Anthony Sanders (first base coach.)
Cossins came to the Orioles with Hyde in 2019.
