Orioles’ Santander wins Silver Slugger Award
Anthony Santander’s 44 home runs won him a Silver Slugger Award. Santander, who’s a free agent, was one of three Oriole finalists, and he joins the New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge and Juan Soto as outfield winners for the 2024 season.
The award represents the best offensive players at each position in each league. Winners are voted on by major league managers and coaches, who can’t vote for players on their own teams.
Gunnar Henderson, who won the utility category last season, lost out to Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. at shortstop, and Jordan Westburg, who was a finalist at the utility position this year, finished behind Texas’ Josh Smith.
Santander hit 44 home runs, seventh most in Orioles history, drove in 102 runs and hit .235 with an .814 OPS.
It’s Santander’s first Silver Slugger Award.
Last year, Henderson and catcher Adley Rutschman won Silver Slugger awards. In 2021, Cedric Mullins was an outfield winter.
