When Buck Britton was promoted from Triple-A Norfolk’s manager to the Orioles’ major league staff, the Orioles needed to replace him. On Friday, they hired 37-year-old Tim Federowicz to manage the Tides for the 2025 season.

Federowicz managed Triple-A Toledo for the Detroit Tigers in 2024 and served as the Tigers’ catching coach in 2023. He began his post-playing career as Triple-A Tacoma’s manager in 2022 for the Seattle Mariners.

The former catcher played in 163 games in parts of eight seasons from 2011-2019 for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco, Houston, Cincinnati and Texas. He never played against the Orioles in his career.

Federowicz played for the Cubs in 2016 when Orioles manager Brandon Hyde was the team’s first base coach and for the Astros in 2018 when executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias was assistant general manager.

His most extensive big-league playing time came in 2013 when he hit .231 with four home runs and 16 RBIs in 56 games for the Dodgers.

Federowicz was a member of the 2020 United States Olympic baseball team that was runner-up to Japan when the pandemic-postponed games were played in 2021.

The Orioles aren’t expected to announce the rest of their minor league hires for 2025 until early next year.
