With the Winter Meetings beginning on Sunday, the Orioles appear to have filled two positions of need.

Earlier on Saturday night, the Orioles reached agreement on a three-year, $39.5 million contract with outfielder Tyler O’Neill. Now, again according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, they have an agreement on a one-year deal worth $8.5 million with catcher Gary Sánchez.

Sánchez would back up Adley Rutschman. James McCann, Rutschman’s backup for the past two seasons, is a free agent.

The 32-year-old Sánchez, who was a two-time All-Star with the New York Yankees in 2017 and 2019, has played with four teams — Minnesota, the New York Mets, Milwaukee and San Diego — since 2022.

Last season, Sánchez hit .220 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs and a .699 OPS in 89 games for the Brewers.
