Orioles claim infielder Jacob Amaya off waivers from White Sox

The Orioles claimed infielder Jacob Amaya off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday and designated right-handed pitcher Roansy Contreras for assignment.

Amaya, a 26-year-old, who plays shortstop and second base, hit .182 with five RBIs in 28 games with Chicago, Miami and Houston in 2023 and 2024.

He was 4-for-10 (.400) against the Orioles in three games he played for the White Sox in Baltimore last September.

Last week, the Orioles claimed Contreras off waivers from Cincinnati and designated infielder Liván Soto for assignment.
