The Orioles acquired infielder Luis Vázquez from the Chicago Cubs on Friday for cash considerations. Vázquez, a 17th-round draft choice in 2017, was 1-for-12 (.083) with an RBI in 2024, his only major league action.
He plays second base, shortstop and third base, and has two options remaining.
To make room for Vázquez on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated infielder Emmanuel Rivera for assignment. Rivera, who was claimed off waivers from Miami in August, hit .313 with four home runs and 14 RBIs in 27 games last season. He did not have any options remaining.
