Orioles’ Minor League Roundup: Combined no-hitter for Norfolk; Povich, Kjerstad win awards; Hays works with Bowie

Chayce McDermott, Nolan Hoffman and Kaleb Ort combined on a no-hitter as Triple-A Norfolk defeated Nashville, 2-0.

McDermott, who had a perfect game for six innings, walked two in the seventh. He struck out 14. Hoffman recorded four outs and Ort pitched the ninth inning.

Jackson Holliday had an RBI double.

Catcher Samuel Basallo hit a three-run home run, leftfielder Jud Fabian and third baseman Anthony Servideo also homered in Double-A Bowie’s 5-1 win over Erie.

Kyle Brnovich pitched four hitless innings in relief for the win.

High-A Aberdeen was held to one hit in its 2-0 loss at Brooklyn.

First baseman Maxwell Costes and second baseman Angel Tejada each drove in two runs as Single-A Delmarva won its second straight, 5-1 over Fayetteville. Michael Forret allowed one hit in four scoreless innings, striking out seven, walking one.

Cade Povich and Heston Kjerstad were named the International League Pitcher and Player of the Month.

Austin Hays, who’s on the 10-day injured list with a strained left calf muscle, is working out with Bowie this weekend, and should play in minor league rehab games next week, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said.

Bowie right-handed pitcher Zach Peek has been transferred to the 60-day injured list with a stress reaction of the right scapula. On Thursday, Baysox right-hander Keagan Gillies was placed on the injured list with right elbow inflammation.

Aberdeen catcher Creed Willems was named the South Atlantic Player of the Month.

The Orioles’ Florida Complex League team begins play on Saturday at 10 a.m. against the Pirates. The FCL Orioles’ schedule runs through July 25th. In the past, the FCL season started and ended a month later.

Monday-Friday games begin at noon at Ed Smith Stadium. Saturday games start at 10. There are no games on Sunday. Admission is free. Fans can enter 30 minutes before first pitch at the left field gate, and park in the East Lot. Concession stands will not be open.
