Orioles’ Minor League Roundup: Hays homers in 1st rehab game for Bowie

Orioles outfielder Austin Hays hit a two-run home run, singled and walked in his first rehab games in Double-A Bowie’s 17-1 win over Akron.

Hays, who’s on the 10-day injured list with a strained left calf muscle, hit the home run in the first inning. The leftfielder also struck out. Hays scored three runs.

Centerfielder Jud Fabian homered twice, had four hits and drove in five runs.

Alex Pham (1-1) allowed a run on a hit in five innings.

Designated hitter Thomas Sosa and centerfielder Braylin Tavera each had three hits as Single-A Delmarva beat Kannapolis, 5-3. Sosa hit his first home run.

Cade Povich, who was named the Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April, allowed three runs on six hits in five innings for Triple-A Norfolk.

Coby Mayo was named the Orioles’ Minor League Player of the Month. Chayce McDermott, who threw 6 2/3 innings in a combined no-hitter on Friday, was named the International League Pitcher of the Week.

The Tides activated infielder Nick Strowd off the injured list and added right-hander Kade Strowd from Norfolk. Infielder Noelberth Romero was sent from Norfolk to Delmarva. Right-hander Wandisson Charles was placed on the development list.

Aberdeen right-hander Teddy Sharkey has been placed on the injured list with a back injury. Infielders Terrin Vavra and Max Wagner began rehab assignments with the IronBirds.
