BALTIMORE—A day after Danny Coulombe went on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation, he expressed optimism that the condition wasn’t serious.

“After my last outing, I had some residual soreness when I played catch a few days after that,” he said. “We’re still gathering information on it.”

The 34-year-old left-hander said that an MRI has been scheduled.

Coulombe, who threw two spotless innings in relief on Saturday at Tampa Bay, has a 1-0 record with a 2.42 ERA, struck out 28 while walking only three and hasn’t allowed any of his 13 inherited runners to score.

“I think we’re pretty optimistic about it,” Coulombe said. “I haven’t had soreness like this all season, so this was something new.”

With John Means and Tyler Wells both out for the season because of elbow injuries, it would be natural for Coulombe to speculate.

“We’re human beings. There’s always a fear element in that,” Coulombe said.
