SARASOTA—After leaving Wednesday’s start after 33 pitches and just 1 1/3 innings, Grayson Rodriguez said he felt “sluggish.”

A day later, manager Brandon Hyde said Rodriguez “has got a little bit of soreness in his triceps. He’s getting evaluated today. There’s really nothing more to report because he’s being evaluated. We’ll have more information tomorrow.”

Because of a serious traffic accident on Interstate 75, Hyde wasn’t able to get to Wednesday’s game against Minnesota in Fort Myers to watch Rodriguez.

“I heard about it postgame. He just wasn’t feeling up to himself,” Hyde said. “Today he showed a little bit of triceps soreness … You’re concerned every day with everybody.”

Only one of his pitches Wednesday was recorded at 95 mph. Most were in the 92-93 mph range, prompting concern. Statcast clocked one of his fastballs at 89.5 mph.

Rodriguez was on the injured list twice in 2024 — for right shoulder inflammation in May, and missed the last two months of the season with right lat/teres strain.

Shortstop Gunnar Henderson, who has an intercostal strain, “continues to show improvement each day,” Hyde said. “Right now, he’s getting rest and treatment.”

Reliever Andrew Kittredge, who has a sore left knee, has been imaged, Hyde said. “We’re continuing to discuss treatment options. More information tomorrow.”

Third baseman Jordan Westburg is in the lineup for Thursday night’s game for the first time since February 22nd. He’d been out with a back spasms. Hyde was aiming to get him “a couple of at-bats tonight.”
