Question: What do you think about the Kyle Gibson signing? From: John Hall
Answer: Several readers, including Mitch, who wants to know why the Orioles would sign a pitcher who won’t be ready for at least a month, and Bill Connor, who wants to know if Gibson will start or be in the bullpen, have questioned the signing.
I think signing the 37-year-old right-hander was a fine move to add an extra starter to the rotation. He’s familiar to the team and well-liked, and it’s important to have as many starters as possible.
Gibson wasn’t signed to pitch in relief.

Question: Will Vimael Machin make the O’s roster? Certainly looks like he deserves a chance. From: Richard Kalwarski
Answer: Richard, I don’t think Machin will make the Orioles’ roster because they have fine players at second and third, his best positions. Machin doesn’t play shortstop, and though he’s hit well in spring training, there doesn’t seem to be a place for him. He’s a good insurance policy in case there are multiple injuries at second and third base.
