BALTIMORE—In need of another bullpen arm, the Orioles on Sunday returned Brandon Young to Triple-A Norfolk and recalled right-hander Cody Poteet.

Young allowed three runs on seven hits in four innings, walking three and striking out three against Cincinnati in his major league debut on Saturday.

In the first two games of the Reds’ series, the Orioles needed 9 2/3 innings from their bullpen. Starting pitcher Cade Povich lasted only 3 1/3 innings on Friday night. On Saturday, manager Brandon Hyde used seven relievers.

Poteet was acquired from the Chicago Cubs on March 29th for cash considerations and optioned to Norfolk. In four games for the Tides, he’s 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA.

In 24 major league games with Miami and the New York Yankees, Poteet is 5-4 with a 3.80 ERA. He’s started 13 games.

Note: Outfielder Heston Kjerstad, who sustained a bruised right elbow after he was hit by a 100-mph pitch, is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game but hasn’t been placed on the injured list. He was wearing protection on his elbow in the clubhouse.
