Prep Ballplayer of the Week: Nolet’s arm, Seidler’s bat and Rolfes’ dual role stand out

Our second “Prep Ballplayer of the Week” vote is underway.

It was a competitive selection process as a majority of teams around the Baltimore area took to the diamond more than once.

Extra-base hits rained down – no pun intended – throughout the week and a pitching performance stood out like no other.

THIS WEEK’S FINALISTS

Cam Nolet, Jr., LHP, St. Mary’s
The junior left-hander didn’t allow much of anything against St. Paul’s on April 3. Nolet hurled a complete-game shutout in the Saints’ 3-0 victory. The southpaw allowed two hits and struck out 15 batters — yes, 15 — on the day.

Adam Rolfes, Jr., INF/RHP, Century
Rolfes garnered two solid performances this past week – one at the plate and another on the mound. On April 3 versus Liberty, the junior homered twice – including a three-run shot in the 5th inning – in a 10-8 win. Two days later against Winters Mill, he pitched four innings – allowing only one unearned run. Rolfes gave up five hits and struck out seven in the 15-3 victory.

Joe Seidler, Jr., INF/RHP, Chesapeake-Anne Arundel
Nominated twice for ‘Prep Ballplayer’ last year, Seidler showcased his speed and power throughout this week for the Cougars. He tripled twice and recorded three RBIs in a 13-8 win over Severna Park on April 3. At the end of the week, the preseason, all-state selection contributed three of the team’s 15 runs with a three-run shot against Meade. He totaled six RBIs in the two games.

Others considered (listed alphabetically): Mike Cybert, Chesapeake-AA; Reece Early, Gerstell; Evan Fochtman, Spalding; Tyler Green, Northeast; John Jenkins, Broadneck; David Kates, Glen Burnie; Austin Koehn, Patterson Mill; Hank Koele, Glenelg; Michael Smell, Arundel; Steve Sturlaugson, Arundel.
