THE MAJOR LEAGUERS

Alec Asher and Wade MileyMilwaukee Brewers

Miley, after opening the season on the DL with a torn groin, made his season debut for the Brewers on May 2. But he lasted only two starts before landing back on the DL with a strained right oblique. Miley returned in time to make one more start before the All-Star break. Overall, he’s 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA, but he’s walked nine batters in 11 1/3 innings. It appears his control hasn’t improved since he averaged 5.3 walks per nine innings for the Orioles last year.

Asher, who made 24 appearances for the Orioles last season, has pitched just two big league games this year for the Brewers. They happened exactly two months apart; a scoreless relief outing apiece on May 12 and July 12. In the latter, Asher pitched in relief in a game started by Miley, an occurrence that happened seven times for the Orioles last season.
