Three high school seniors are finalists for this week’s Prep Ballplayer of the Week award.
One finalist pitched a gem, while another found success on the mound and at the plate. Our third finalist took opposing pitchers deep twice.
This Week’s Finalists
Jared Lamb, Sr., RHP, Century
Century tossed a combined no-hitter against South Carroll on Monday. Lamb went seven of the eight innings — the Knights won 1-0 in extra innings — and recorded 11 strikeouts. He had two hits, including a triple, a day later in the team’s loss to Howard.
Ben Looper, Sr., RHP/INF, Oakland Mills
The Scorpions faced Wilde Lake in a doubleheader Tuesday. And each contest had the same result: an 8-3 Oakland Mills victory with a strong performance from Looper. The senior struck out 14 in 6 1/3 innings in Game One. He also had two hits — a double — and two RBIs. In the second game, Looper had two more hits and knocked in two more runs.
Jose Torres, Sr., INF, Calvert Hall
Torres showcased his power last week. The North Carolina State commit belted a walkoff grand slam versus Gilman Tuesday (the Cardinals won, 5-2). Two days later against Mount St. Joseph, the senior infielder slugged a two-run home run in Calvert Hall’s 7-0 victory.
Others considered (listed alphabetically): Dawson Drewyer, Southern; Jack Murphy, North County; Nate Reed, Harford Tech; Will Simms, Howard; Champ Wert, Arundel.
