This week’s selection process for the three Prep Ballplayer of the Week finalists wasn’t easy as a number of players dominated.
Between the three finalists and six players in the “others considered” category, four of them had 10 or more strikeouts in a single outing while five tallied five or more RBIs — the hitters also combined for seven home runs.

For a second straight week, Century has a player in the Prep Ballplayer vote. Last week it was right-hander Jared Lamb. This time, it’s infielder Matt Born, who was a big part of the Knights’ offense. The senior hit a grand slam and knocked in five runs Wednesday in a 14-10 win over Winters Mill. On Saturday against Westminster, Born knocked in a third of the team’s 15 runs with a two-run home run and a three-run blast.
Peter Heubeck, Soph., RHP, Gilman
Heubeck shut down Loyola in his six innings of work Wednesday. The sophomore struck out 13 hitters. He allowed a run on three hits. The Greyhounds won 6-2.
Hunter Wright, Jr., LHP, C. Milton Wright
The Mustangs earned a 2-1 extra-inning victory Wednesday against Rising Sun. And Wright was a large part of that. The southpaw gave up a run on five hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out 12 hitters. Wright also knocked in the team’s first run of the game with a single.
Others considered (listed alphabetically): Carson Collier, Atholton; Gabe Delgado, Howard; James Hawkins, Chesapeake; Dylan Tenney, Broadneck; Benji Thalheimer, Atholton; Brandon Will, Century.
